Joint winners for 2024

The second weekend in July proved to be our busiest weekend in many years. We kicked off on Friday evening with  a concert at St Luke’s Methodist Church in Clayton. It had been a number of years since we had last given a concert here and were given a very warm welcome. The band played some of it’s new pieces of music – ‘Streamline Peaks’ by Paul Lovatt-Cooper, ‘Behold the Power of God’ by Christopher Bond, ‘Concert Prelude’ by Philip Sparke and ‘Children’s Friend’ by Wilfred Heaton. During the evening there were 2 brilliantly played solos. First Will Convey played ‘Over the Rainbow’ on tenor horn, followed by Josh Stevenson playing Eriks Esenvalds ‘Only in Sleep’ on Flugel horn.

Our vice President, Joyce Capey, made the presentation of the Derek Capey Memorial Trophy during the concert. This is awarded to the ‘band’s person of the year’ as voted for by the members of the band. This year there were 2 worthy recipients who will share the trophy – Kelvin Motterhead and Joshua Stevenson.
